MICHAEL J. PENN MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

The annual Michael J Penn Memorial Golf Tournament was brought about by Creed Contracting’s owner, who is the son of Michael J Penn, by wanting to honor his father's life work, his love of golf and giving back to a local nonprofit.

Michael Johnston Penn was born June 17, 1957, in Monroe, LA. He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he received a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction.

In 1992, Mike founded Penn Homes, focusing on home building, remodeling and residential development. He was selected as Small Business Person of the Year by the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce in 1996. Through his work in the construction industry, Mike became involved in the Home Builders Association of Northwest Louisiana serving as President in 2006 and continued to serve on the Board of Directors until his death. He was honored as Builder of the Year in 2006 and Member of the Year in 2011. Mike Penn had many work accolades and professional designations with a special appointment by then Governor Bobby Jindal adding Mike to the Residential Building Committee of the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors.

Mike Penn was a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and many local clubs and volunteer boards throughout the community. He especially loved travel and his family time. Michael Johnston Penn passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012, at his home in Shreveport, LA, following a valiant battle with cancer.
